Getting Older

Image result for growing older

I titled this getting older rather than being old. I have discovered that there are no how-tos for getting older. No ideas on how best to do it.
I have seen no 10 reasons to grow older. Or how do I look like a teen-ager when I am an octogenarian. Of course, why would I want to?
When you are young, under 50, you really don't give much thought to YOU getting old. You are planning for retirement, getting the kids through school and just plain getting through the day.

In our teen years we cannot wait to get to the magic numbers: 16 and 21. First you get your license and then you lose your license, or have the ability to lose them. After that, you are just an adult and are expected to act like one.
And how is that exactly?
Take responsibility for your actions, for one thing.
Okay. That's done.
Get a job, preferably as good one. Find a mate, maybe have children.
And along the way have some fun.
Done.
I am now 50. What is left to do? Grow old? Stagnate? Travel the world?

What is there left to do. Enrich your knowledge, figure out how your life is going, where you want it to go. Oh, yeah, these things do not just figure themselves out. It feels just like being in high school some days.

Some days you feel like there are no right ways to do this. The answer is there are no right ways. Just your way.
If you are lucky you find people of like mind and you have some fun, see some interesting things and find that growing older is not so bad.

Z is for Zelda

Zelda shopped yesterday for a xylophone. It was for her weird Uncle Verge. That is the strangest spelling for his name, but so is he. He rules her universe. When he asks for something, Zelda sees that he gets it, even if she has to go through thirty turnstiles to get it.
After a day with Uncle Verge, she needs to be still and rest. A lot.
Today the quest is for people Uncle Verge loves. The one he loves the is coming to see him. It will put him over the rainbow.
Notation to self: keep the people you love happy.
She didn't know what she needed to put into motion to make his dreams come true, but she thought she might need some lotion to grease the wheels of some to come to him. Her knowledge of his past and the ones he loved proved to be what was needed to get some to join them. It took doing to change the inertia of some of the loved ones.
Hereafter, she will look twice before leaping.
She hoped that Uncle Verge's gratitude would make for fun, faith and frivolities for everyone there. She wanted them to enjoy some dancing in the dark.
The changes on Uncle Verge, when he saw everyone there, was a beauty to behold.
And, no, she did not have to yell, " April Fool's" because it wasn't. It was the last day of April and not the first.
I hope with my little story, I have kept all of my April posts in your mind. I also hope you have enjoyed this as much as I have.

K is for knowledge

Knowledge is an ongoing gathering thing. It includes knowing how to walk, talk and run.
It also includes knowing where to go to find the knowledge. Which school is best for the knowledge you need as you go out into the world. Which person can support you in your thirst for knowledge.

As you age, the knowledge you need is sometimes only found in other people, not books or the internet. How does it feel to be old? No one wants to admit they know this. We don't want to admit how it feels, because we never get there.

Old is someplace we don't admit to being. That is someone else who is old. Not me.

Aging is something we all do. It can be fun. And you take your fun where you find it. You take your knowledge where you can get it, too.

It comes from experience. You learn you are excited that you went under the limbo bar. Never mind that it was only two inches below your eyebrow, and you only had to tip your head to get under it.

Go out and experience something to gain knowledge. Get the knowledge to do the current dance.

Like the guy above, fill your head with knowledge, and then you have an excuse when you forget something.

Fun, Faith and Frivolities

If I was really organized this would read : Faith, Frivolities and Fun. But, Fun, Faith and Frivolities sounds better. Really. Try it.It really does roll off the tongue easier and easier to hear. Not sure why that is so, if it may be because you move from short to long and longer or from single syllables to multiples at the end, but this is how it is here.

Now, wasn't that fun?

If you have fun, you almost have to have faith. Faith that whatever you are doing for fun will turn out well. The guys in the picture have faith that they can do this juggling thing. And even though they might not do it the fun was in the trying. The having faith that nothing bad would happen and they would live to laugh another day.

Frivolities can come in all sorts of ways. I just spent time laughing at the frivolities of getting the picture on this page to where it is. It moved all over for me and we finally came to an agreement to this spot.

We learn that we can juggle three things, and then drop one and pick another one to join the two still in the air. When we were younger, we thought that all we did had to be kept in the air at all times. With age wisdom really does come, sometimes.

With that thought, go have fun and frivolities with some faith.
